Tooro Kingdom Confirms Death of King Oyo After Prolonged Illness in the US

Tooro Kingdom has confirmed the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died today, 27 August, following a prolonged illness in the United States. The news caps off weeks of uncertainty.  Rumours about the King’s health first surfaced on social media a few weeks ago, suggesting he was battling illness abroad.

Those rumours gained weight yesterday afternoon when the Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister confirmed that the King was indeed sick and in critical condition, while also pushing back on earlier reports claiming he had already died. At the time, the Prime Minister asked well-wishers to keep the King in their prayers.

That reassurance didn’t last long. A few hours later, Tooro Kingdom announced the King’s death, sending a wave of grief across the country. Tooro Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki addressed the nation following the announcement, calling on the people of Tooro to remain united during this period.

He confirmed that the late King leaves behind a prince who will succeed him as heir to the throne. Details about the King’s burial remain limited for now. The Kingdom has not released a timeline or specifics on funeral arrangements, though more information is expected in the coming days.
