Don Chris Arrested Over Job Scam That Cost Ugandans Over 500 Million Shillings

Police have arrested city socialite and businessman Don Chris, real name Asiimwe Christian, in connection with a job scam that left many Ugandans out millions of shillings. For years, Don Chris lived large.

He was a familiar face at hangout spots around the city, and musicians and entertainers regularly sought sponsorship from him for their events through his company, Skypins Tours and Travels. The company ran ads in trusted media outlets, promising to help job seekers land well-paying work in countries like Luxembourg, the UK, Dubai, Qatar, and Canada.

Then the offices shut down, and Don Chris left the country. That’s when the complaints started piling up. Desperate Ugandans came forward saying they had paid for jobs abroad that never materialized, and police opened an investigation into the company’s dealings.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Onyango Patrick confirmed the manhunt to the media, saying Don Chris had gone on the run. After looping in the Ministry of Labour, Onyango revealed that Skypins had no active contract to place Ugandans in jobs overseas.

The fraud goes back to 2022. Victims paid between 3 and 10 million shillings each, and police believe Don Chris pocketed more than 500 million shillings in total. Onyango described how Don Chris responded when victims asked for their money back.

“When the people asked him for a refund, he started threatening them instead of giving them answers. He told them that he had powerful people behind him in the government and had security backing,” he said.
