Watoto Church Hands Kabaka Sh38 Million Birthday Gift

Watoto Church has presented a sh38 million birthday thanksgiving gift to the Kabaka of Buganda. The offering came during celebrations marking his 33rd coronation anniversary. Buganda leaders, government officials, and hundreds of worshippers gathered for the occasion.

The service took place at Watoto Church in Bweyogerere on July 31. Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo led the proceedings as the church’s team leader. This year’s celebration carried extra significance for the kingdom’s traditions.  Watoto Church became the first evangelical church to host the event.

Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga explained that the Kabaka rotates the service yearly. He does this among different places of worship to show religious inclusiveness.  According to Mayiga, the king does not choose religion for his subjects.

He simply directs that all faiths be welcomed and honored equally. Although the Kabaka did not personally attend this year’s service, the event still drew a strong turnout.  Cultural, religious, and political leaders showed up in large numbers. Traders hoping to profit from the crowds set up stalls nearby.

Some reportedly left disappointed by lower-than-expected turnout for their goods. Rwotlonyo thanked the kingdom for choosing Watoto Church to host the Kabaka celebration. He said the church welcomed the chance to give thanks to God. He added that the service honored both the Kabaka and the people of Buganda.
