Tragedy in Adjumani: Woman Arrested for Alleged Strangling of Co-Wife
Police in Adjumani District detained a 35-year-old lady for the alleged murder of her co-wife. The horrific strangulation happened on February 14, 2026, approximately 10:00 pm in Nyumanzi.
The victim, Zakia Ahmad, 34, died from suffocation. Her co-wife, Baatio Jane, faces prosecution after the violent clash. Both women belong to the Madi community and live in Egge Village, Ajugopi Parish, Dzaip Sub-county.
North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson Collins Asea gave key details. The spouse, Maiku Ahmad, held a meeting with local elders. He attempted to settle persistent disagreements between his two wives.
Tensions boiled over rapidly. The father-in-law, Kanaa Swaibu, stopped the session. He urged both women to leave the compound immediately. As they walked out, a furious fight erupted. Baatio Jane reportedly overpowered Zakia Ahmad. She went for her neck squeezing it hard and caused her fatal asphyxia.
Bystanders stepped in fast. They rushed Zakia to Nyumanzi Health Centre III. Doctors pronounced her dead after midnight.
Swift Police Action and Ongoing Probe
Officers arrived at the site shortly. They arrested Baatio Jane right away. The team transferred the body to Adjumani General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
Homicide detectives secured the crime scene. They collected evidence and initiated extensive investigations. SP Asea showed her concern to domestic violence which is terrible. Police urge families to pursue peaceful alternatives. It called for peaceful ways to resolve issues through seeking mediations from other people than violence.
