Azawi Praises Eddy Kenzo’s Courage Amid New Copyright Law Debate
Azawi has applauded Eddy Kenzo for his courage in handling criticism while continuing to uplift fellow artists. She shared her views during a recent YouTube interview.
The Swangz Avenue star described Kenzo as a close friend despite their differing political views. She emphasized that disagreements do not weaken their relationship. Instead, they help them understand each other better.
Azawi went out to point out how social media inlaws exaggerate their differences. She said that the tension between both Eddy Kenzo and Azawi was fueled by online in-laws. However, in reality, they maintain mutual respect despite their disagreements.
“Eddy and I have things we agree on and those we don’t; it is okay. If we meet, we respect that and cannot be on the same page, but it can’t take away the fact that he played a part in my journey as an artist. He contributed something to me, and even when he does the worst thing of all, I cannot take that away from him. He is not perfect, but I appreciate him in a certain way. Even when we disagree on something, I will always tell him,” she said.
Azawi Credits Eddy Kenzo’s Impact on Her Career
Azawi also revealed the key role Eddy Kenzo played in her music journey. She continued to reveal how his contribution remains important, regardless of their disagreements.
She noted that no artist is perfect but stressed the value of appreciation. According to her, recognizing impact matters more than focusing on flaws. She also stated that she openly shares her opinions with him, even during conflicts.
“I have criticized him before but I applaud him that amidst all the kind of disagreements and arguments, he has still stood the test of time to the level that we are achieving the copyright. He was brave and did what other artists were afraid to do. It wasn’t easy,” she said.
Azawi continued to highlight Kenzo’s leadership as president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation. She commended his ability to withstand criticism during his tenure.
She credited him for pushing forward important initiatives like copyright reforms. She added that his bravery stands out, especially in a challenging industry environment.

Azawi revealed that they once planned a public debate to address political differences. However, the plan did not materialize due to changes in schedule.
